David Bradlow, founder of Bradlows, was born David Adolph Brudno in Smorgon, a small town near Vilna in Czarist, Russells.

He first came to Johannesburg in 1897 at the age of 21, and retreated to Cape Town at the outbreak of the Anglo Boer War. While there, he gained his first insight into the world of home furnishing and he embarked on his mission to bring quality furniture to all South Africans.

Upon returning to the reef, he changed his name to Bradlow to make it easier on the English speaking tongue. Sadly, David Bradlow died in 1943, and the company passed into the hands of his son, Mannie Bradlow.
