Facebook To Phase Out Instant Articles By April 2023

In 2015, Facebook unveiled “Instant Articles”, a program that natively hosts publishers’ content in its app’s News Feed so users don’t have to click out and wait for websites to load.

Fast forward 7 years later, Facebook announced it will retire the program by April 2023 as it continues to shift away from news content, in preference for entertaining video.

“Starting in mid-April 2023, Instant Articles will no longer be available. Until then, you will still have access to insights and monetization related to your Instant Articles. As of October 14, 2022, Instant Articles will be available only to existing partners.”

It seems like building publisher relationships has become a lesser priority to Facebook. The company’s ending support for Instant Articles as it works to better align with user preferences, which, increasingly, see video being its most engaging content format.
