Showmax — a subsidiary of of Multichoice — is an online subscription video on demand service which was launched on the 19th of August 2019 in South Africa.
Showmax uses a localisation strategy to take on established video on demand competitors with a focus on local content and partnerships with mobile telecommunication companies.
Over the years, the brand has put 8 domestic competitors out of business, while at the same time, still competing with international video steaming services such Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Disney+.
With offices in Johannesburg and Prague, Showmax’s engineering team is based in the Czech Republic.
