Senzo Mchunu’s personal remuneration is different from staff costs and the police ministry’s wider budget. An office budget is not a salary. Our presidential remuneration guide explains another public-office decision process.

The dated leave decision
The President’s 13 July 2025 statement records Mchunu’s immediate leave of absence and establishment of an inquiry. It is a dated decision, not a finding that every allegation is proved.
The 14 July letter explains the inquiry context. A later employment or pay change requires its own evidence; the original decision should not be expanded into a current payroll disclosure.
Office-based pay
The Remuneration Commission publishes the executive and parliamentary determination. Check the office, period and package components. A general scale does not certify individual tax deductions or administration of a particular leave arrangement.
Our party-role pay guide explains why party employment cannot simply inherit a ministerial scale. The employer and actual office matter.
Staff costs and personal income
A total for advisers or support staff must be labelled by its category and period. It should not be described as R24 million personally paid to a minister. Administrative expenditure and a person’s assets are different records.
For any pay claim, establish annual or monthly units, gross or net basis and salary versus package. Arithmetic cannot verify a number lacking an underlying source.
Wealth and allegations
Our financial-target guide distinguishes income and net assets. An inquiry also does not prove a private fortune or criminal conviction. Financial and legal conclusions need the relevant records.
The supported account here is the public framework and dated leave decision. This guide does not invent current take-home pay, attribute all office spending to the individual or pre-judge the inquiry.
