Who owns the club?
Remgro’s impact-investment information lists Stellenbosch FC and Stellenbosch Academy of Sport as wholly owned investments. The club’s official history records the 2018 purchase through Remgro/Stellenbosch Academy of Sport. These sources identify the group connection more accurately than a generic claim that one billionaire directly owns everything involved.
An ownership interest, a chairperson’s position and an executive responsibility are different roles. A published investment percentage establishes the relevant company’s holding; it should not be converted into a personal percentage without evidence about the shareholding structure.
From Vasco da Gama to Stellenbosch
The club dates its formation to Vasco da Gama’s relocation and rebranding in 2016. Its history records winning the 2018/19 National First Division and promotion to the top flight, followed by the launch of its youth academy in 2019. Those milestones describe the development of the club rather than a fixed current squad.
The official timeline also records the 2023/24 Carling Knockout title and the 2024/25 CAF Confederation Cup semi-final. A dated timeline avoids keeping old players or coaching appointments on a page as if they remain current indefinitely.
Football as an operating organisation
Ownership is only one part of running a club. Facilities, youth development, recruitment and commercial relationships all affect its ability to compete. The club’s public vision emphasises a pathway for the Cape Winelands region and social upliftment.

In an April 2025 announcement, the club described a long-term arrangement to develop and manage the Van der Stel sports complex while the municipality retained ownership. A management or development agreement should therefore not be described as a purchase of municipal land.
