Luxury house vs luxury car – what South Africans can get for R8 million

Despite the majority of South Africans facing dire economic conditions due to rising inflation, load shedding and poor economic growth, South Africa is still home to the largest number of millionaires in Africa.

According to the African Wealth Report for 2023, published by Henley & Partners in partnership with New World Wealth, South Africa has the largest number of millionaires on the continent, accounting for over 27% of the 138,000 millionaires on the continent.

Despite South Africa losing over 11,000 millionaires in the last decade, the 37,800 US dollar millionaires in the country still dwarf Egypt’s 16,100, Nigeria’s 9,800, Kenya’s 7,700 and Morocco’s 5,800 in terms of the number of millionaires in the country.

South Africa has a luxury car and property market that can look to these wealthy buyers to sell expensive properties.

Entrepreneur Hub SA recently looked at some of the most expensive cars in South Africa and wanted to compare the cost of these cars with luxury houses in South Africa’s richest cities.

Data from the 2023 Africa Wealth Report showed what the wealthiest cities in South Africa are:

For this article, Entrepreneur Hub SA will take the most expensive car and compare it to the wealthiest city and continue this trend until the seventh most expensive city and car are compared.

(The cars on this list are not necessarily the most expensive cars available in South Africa. Luxury car dealers often do not include prices for their higher-end models, as customers will change certain aspects of the car. Thus, cars with a price on application were excluded).
