New sheriff in town, Elon Musk, has reinstated Donald Trump’s Twitter account on Saturday – reversing a ban that had kept the former U.S President off the social media site for more than 22 months — since a pro-Trump mob attacked the U.S. Capitol in January 2021, as Congress was poised to certify President Biden’s election victory.
This came after Musk held a poll that asked Twitter users to click “yes” or “no” on whether Trump’s Twitter account should be reinstated. The “yes” vote won with 51.8%. The 24-hour poll reached 134 million accounts and garnered more than 15 million votes.
Musk also reinstated accounts tied to conservative media personality Jordan Peterson, satirical website Babylon Bee, and controversial online influencer, Andrew Tate, who was kicked off Twitter in 2017 for comments he made about women which violated its terms of service.
Trump’s reinstatement on Twitter came at the right time as the former president officially announced his intention of running for the White House again in 2024.
