For over four decades, K-Way has dominated the South African clothing landscape. Founded in 1981, this powerhouse brand forms part of Cape Union Mart.
Cape Union Mart’s Cape Town factory churns out over 40,000 K-Way garments monthly, employing 200+ staff. The brand honors Philip Krawitz, affectionately known as “Mr. K.”
K-Way’s triangular logo is instantly recognizable, symbolizing South African resilience.
In 1933, Philip Krawitz launched Cape Union Mart, catering to fishermen, troops, and sailors. His customer-centric approach earned the store the nickname “the friendly store.”
Arthur J. Krawitz took the reins in the 1940s, shifting focus to non-seasonal clothing. Philip J. Krawitz expanded the company into a multi-brand powerhouse in 1970.
The early 1980s saw Cape Union Mart acquire the Hepworth factory, renamed K-Way to reflect Arthur Krawitz’s commitment to excellence. This marked the birth of the iconic K-Way brand.
“Customers called Krawitz ‘Mr. K’ for his expertise and dedication,” says a Cape Union Mart spokesperson. “We continue to uphold these values.”
