At that time, he was running a paint & hardware store, and became disheartened with buying screws, bolts, nuts, and nails in bulk, only to weigh, repackage, and label them individually for customers. This time-consuming task took valuable staff time away from selling higher-profit goods.
Hendrik realized his staff spent too much time weighing fasteners and decided to pre-pack a range of fasteners in ideal quantities during off-peak times. This enabled quick client service during busy periods.
